Burden Bearers Counselling Society

REGIONAL BOARD

The governing body of the Society.  A group of individuals responsible for policy, management and operation of all the activities of the Society.

AREA BOARD

A group of individuals responsible for the operation and management of a local Area Office of the Society.

AREA DIRECTOR

The person in charge of a local Area Office.

AREA DIRECTOR/COUNSELLOR

The person in charge of the Area Office is also a counsellor.

SENIOR COUNSELLOR

A counsellor with a Graduate Degree or Post Graduate Degree with at least four years of experience as a counsellor.  Registered with a professional body in good standing.
Duties:  Counsels and is capable of supervising counsellors and associate counsellors.

COUNSELLOR

A counsellor with a Masters Degree or equivalent, but with limited or no experience. It is preferred that either category will be registered with a professional body. See C.3 regarding definition of  “equivalent to Master’s Degree.”
Duties:  Counsels and is able to work with minimal supervision, however is not qualified to supervise other counsellors, or associate counsellors.

ASSOCIATE COUNSELLOR

Has a Counselling or Social Work diploma (e.g. two year social work) or associate two year degree with at least two years of experience as a counsellor.
Duties: Counsels but must be under the supervision of a Senior Counsellor.
Note: the supervising counsellor would not need to be working in the same office, or even employed with the Society.
